A bill that has been proposed to Congress, which would provide $2,000 per month to Americans in a certain age and income bracket, is gaining more support.

The Emergency Money For The People Act would provide $2,000 per month to Americans 16 or older who are making less than $130,000 per year. There is an additional $500 per child up to three. 

The bill has 28 Democratic co-sponsors but would need Republican co-sponsors in addition to more Democratic co-sponsors for it to pass. While Congressional Republicans have expressed support for some type of cash assistance, this is a much more comprehensive program than other programs previously discussed. 

“The proposal comes at a time of dire economic straits for Americans, as the US Department of Labor said Thursday that 30.3 million Americans filed for unemployment in the last six weeks.”
