Eviction bans and rent deferrals set in place during the initial months of the pandemic are on the verge of expiring. Experts are expecting a surge in evictions for low-income families as almost a third of all renters missed a payment this month.
“Eviction is a very public experience that impacts the entire community. Your belongings are dumped on the street while your children and neighbors watch,” said David Dworkin, president of the National Housing Conference. “Given the high degree of tension we are already experiencing, I don’t think that’s a dynamic we want to test.”
