Social distancing orders are causing a number of Americans to reconsider living in urban areas, like New York or Chicago, in favor of more space in the suburbs.
Increased demand for green space and home working environments have caused many city dwellers to look into the neighborhoods outside of urban areas.
Remote working demand has also played a role in this shift, where people are now less concerned with commuting and more concerned with available space.
In recent years, urban housing prices have far surpassed incomes and could also lead to more favorable living conditions outside of the cities.
“According to a Harris Poll survey, 39% of Americans are considering moving to a less crowded area following the pandemic. Urbanites (43%) were twice as likely as suburban (26%) and rural (21%) residents to have recently visited a real estate website for homes and apartments to rent or buy.”
