Some senior officials in the Trump administration are beginning to get on board with an extension of unemployment benefits, but it’s not likely that there will be an extension before the current CARES Act benefits expire completely.
Unemployment benefits are set to expire in the last week of July, which would affect tens of millions of unemployed Americans who are heavily relying on the support.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell expects the next stimulus bill to be finalized within a few weeks, however, no one knows yet what that will look like and it’s unlikely that it will happen before the current bill expires, resulting in a gap in aid.
